This event is dedicated to sport psychology and mental health. Both areas are vitally important not only to team success, but more importantly, to athlete and staff well-being.
This webinar is relevant to all personnel interacting with athletes: Strength & Conditioning Coaches, Coaches, Physios, Sports Psychologists, Team Managers etc.
Our speakers are globally recognized professionals that have extensive experience working in competitive sports. They will share their insights on building successful teams, mental toughness, promote mental health and much more!



Speakers
Christie Miliordou
Licensed psychologist with postgraduate training in Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy. Graduate of the Euroleague Basketball Sports Business MBA with distinction (first in class 2019-2021). Parallel participation in lifelong learning and specialization programs in Counseling Skills (Edexcel UK), Anger Management Professional Coaching and Consultancy (Stonebridge College, UK), CBT for eating disorders, Health and Wellness Coaching (ICF approved program) and Sport Psychology courses (Open University UK and Barca Innovation Hub Universitas).
I am currently offering individual and group coaching and therapy to teenagers and adults at my private practice in Nea Ionia, Athens, Greece and group workshops as a Mental Performance Coach for Olympiacos BC The Academy. Member of the UK Health Coaches Association and the Association of Greek Psychologists.
Andreas Stamatis
Dr. Andreas Stamatis is an Associate Professor, the Undergraduate Program Coordinator, and the Lab Director in the Department of Exercise and Nutrition Sciences at the State University of New York at Plattsburgh. Dr. Stamatis is best known for his research on Mental Toughness in Sport. He has authored and co-authored many peer-reviewed articles and he has given talks in several countries on this topic.
Besides academia, Andreas has worked for many years as a strength and conditioning coach in Europe and the US. He is originally from Greece, where he owns and runs a variety of health and fitness businesses.
Among other professional organizations, Dr. Stamatis is certified through the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) as an Exercise Physiologist, he serves as the president of the Greater NY ACSM chapter, and he has been recognized as a Fellow (FACSM). He is also on the Certification Board of the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches association (CSCCa) and the Section Editor for Psychology and Behavior at the International Journal of Exercise Science.
Andreas has devoted his life to promoting the profession of Strength and Conditioning through his work. Dr. Stamatis is probably the only person in the academic world who systematically studies mental toughness in strength and conditioning. Andreas loves lifting weights, coffee, and Positive Psychology
Dr. Charles A. Maher
Senior Advisor to the President & GM; Sport & Performance Psychologist.
Charlie Maher enters his 28th season with the Cleveland Guardians . He provides guidance about the mental and emotional development and performance enhancement of all players at the Major and Minor League levels, while also conducting psychological assessments of player prospects for the draft and contributing to the GRIT assessment process. Charlie is Director of the Cleveland Guardians Mental Performance Program and is also involved in talent acquisition assessment and professional development of Indians staff in Baseball and Business Operations. Additionally, Charlie is Director of the Employee Assistance Program; coordinates organizational development projects; provides assistance in the continued development and implementation of the player plan system; and conducts special psychological studies.
Charlie is a licensed psychologist. He is a Fellow of the Association of Applied Sport Psychology and holds Diplomate status with the American Board of Administrative Psychology and American Board of Professional Disability Consultants. He is a Certified Mental Performance Consultant and is listed in the Sport Psychology and Mental Health Registries of the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee. Dr. Maher has earned several graduate degrees and certifications in psychology, education and business, while authoring books like “The Complete Mental Game of Baseball: Taking Charge of the Process, On and Off the Field” and “Developing and Sustaining Sport Psychology Programs.” He is the President of the Professional Baseball Performance Psychology Group, Co-Founder of the Big Sky Professional Sports Group, and sits on the National Advisory Board of the Positive Coaching Alliance.
Before coming to the Guardians, Charlie worked for a decade as sport psychologist for the Chicago White Sox and served as sport psychology consultant for the New York Yankees, Detroit Tigers and other teams. Additionally, Charlie served many years as a sport psychologist for the Cleveland Cavaliers, Cleveland Browns, New York Jets, Rutgers University football and basketball, New York Rangers, and Minnesota Wild. He has also consulted with performance institutes and business corporations worldwide. Dr. Maher’s practice in sport and performance psychology has included work with athletes and teams in football, tennis, basketball, baseball, boxing, horse racing and other sports.
Charlie also is a Professor Emeritus of Psychology at Rutgers University, where he has been involved with doctoral education, supervision, and research in clinical, school and organizational psychology. He has been editor of two professional journals, serves as Associate Editor of the “Journal of Sport Psychology in Action”, sits on the editorial boards of several peer-reviewed scientific journals, and is author of numerous books and scientific publications in sport psychology, management, program planning and evaluation, and special education.
Daniel Gudmundsson
Daniel Gudmundsson is an Icelandic sport psychology expert, who has earned his Master’s degree in Sport Psychology at Lund University in Sweden. He is a graduate of Reykjavik University with a degree in Sport Science, where he was repeatedly awarded for his exceptional grades.
Daniel grew up playing basketball and reached the semi-pro level. In 2016, he ended his career and decided to start coaching professionally. As far as his practical experience goes, after coaching youth basketball for a decade, Daniel started working with both women’s and men’s basketball teams in Njardvik and Grindavik, competing at the highest level of his home country. During the years he attended various courses for career development such as psychology, project management, counseling, management and more. Daniel holds a leadership & executive training certificate from Dale Carnegie.
Future plans for Daniel include following his two great passions – coaching basketball and consulting people on how to improve their mental health and performance. At the moment, Daniel works in Behavioral Modification & Coaching in a Digital Therapeutics company based in Iceland, where he lives with his big family – wife Linda, and three children.
