Jean-Benoit Morin, PhD

Jean-Benoit Morin, PhD
Jean-Benoit (JB) Morin is Full Professor at the University of Saint-Etienne (France), Director of the Sports Science Department, and a member of the Interuniversity Laboratory of Human Movement Biology (LIBM). He is also associate researcher with the Sports Research Institute New-Zealand (SPRINZ) at Auckland University of Technology, and visiting Professor in Locomotion Biomechanics at the School of Sport, Exercise and Health Science at Loughborough University. JB’s field of research is mainly human locomotion and performance, with specific interest in running biomechanics and maximal power movements (sprint, jumps). He has edited a textbook (Biomechanics of Training and Testing, 2018) and published over 180 peer-reviewed scientific papers. He is also a consultant for professional athletes and sport organisations including college and elite basketball. He’s competing in basketball at the amateur level as a shooting guard / small forward.
Ruben Portes, PhD

Ruben Portes, PhD
Currently the Strength and Rehab Coordinator of Valencia Basket Men’s Euroleague team. Previous to Valencia Basket he worked as the Head of Strength and Conditioning in Breogan Lugo and Baloncesto Fuenlabrada, both of the ACB league, as well as the Head of Performance of the academy basketball club Baloncesto Torrelodones in Madrid. He holds a PhD in Sports Science and is a certified CSCS*D by the NSCA, where he serves also as a member of their advisory board in Spain, and a Level 1 Weightlifting Coach by the USAW.
His working mentality is focused on building individual and collective performance frameworks based on sports science evidence and deep situational analysis of every competition environment, for that he is always involved in scientific research and has several publications that focus on these concepts that have helped him through the years in everyday decision making processes.

Dimitrije Cabarkapa, PhD
Dr. Dimitrije Cabarkapa is the Associate Director of the Jayhawk Athletic Performance Laboratory at the University of Kansas, part of the Wu Tsai Human Performance Alliance. Guided by his background as a competitive basketball player, his work sits at the intersection of cutting-edge sport science research and applied performance practice, with a strong emphasis on translating innovation into efficient real-world solutions for elite sport environments. Dr. Cabarkapa has authored more than 100 peer-reviewed publications and has presented his work at numerous regional, national, and international conferences. In 2024, he was recognized by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) for his outstanding impact in sport science research and applied practice.
He has developed extensive collaborations with leading professional sport organizations and academic institutions across the United States, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia. His current work focuses on the biomechanical and neuromuscular demands of professional athletes, physical and physiological responses to training and competition, and the practical implementation of innovative technologies for athlete performance monitoring. His overarching goal is to align innovation and practice through an athlete-centered approach that supports sustained high performance.
Daniel Shapiro

Daniel Shapiro
Daniel Shapiro just completed his 5th year as Head Strength & Conditioning for the LA Clippers. Shapiro joins the Clippers after spending the last 4 seasons at the University of Washington where he was Director of Basketball Athletic Performance for the Men’s Basketball team. During his time with UW he was responsible for designing and implementing all facets of the team’s athletic performance programs including strength, conditioning, recovery, nutrition and individual player performance tracking/monitoring. While working closely with the athletic training staff, sports nutritionists and doctors, he also assists with player rehabilitation programs in efforts to returning players back to peak performance on the basketball court.
No stranger to the NBA, Shapiro served as the Head Strength & Conditioning Coach for the Sacramento Kings from 2005-2013.
Prior to working with the Kings, Shapiro spent two seasons at the University of Dayton as the head strength and conditioning coach for the men’s and women’s basketball teams.
His previous work experience includes a seven-year stint with the Seattle Supersonics (1996-2003) as the assistant strength and conditioning coach under Dwight Daub. During his stay with the Sonics, Shapiro doubled his duties with the organization and worked as the head strength and conditioning coach for the Seattle Storm of the WNBA (2000-03).
Shapiro is co-founder of the NBSCA (National Basketball Strength and Conditioning Association), established in 2008 and served as its inaugural president from 2009 to 2011. In May 2010, Shapiro was awarded the NBSCA Strength and Conditioning Coach of the Year. Along with his NBA team responsibilities, Shapiro also continues to oversee all operations of the athletic performance testing at the annual NBA Pre-Draft Combine since 2010.
A native of Renton, Washington, Shapiro earned a bachelor’s degree in exercise science (2000) and master’s degree in physical education (2005), both from Seattle Pacific University. He has his CSCS (Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist) from the National Strength and Conditioning Association and is a Certified Performance Enhancement Specialist from the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM). Most recently, Shapiro completed the GIFT program (Gray Institute of Functional Transformation) and earned the certification of Fellow of Applied Functional Science (FAFS).
Shapiro enjoys working out, playing basketball and ran and completed his first marathon in the summer of 2009 in Seattle. When he isn’t working, traveling or getting a sweat he loves spending time with his friends and family, watching movies and getting out on the water as much as he can. He and his wife, Sina, reside in Los Angeles with their daughter Eliana (born in September 2016).
Frans Bosch

Frans Bosch
Frans Bosch earned a degree in Physical Education in 1977. Since 1980 he worked in athletics, coaching elite sprinters and Olympic high jumpers and for some years as the national coach for jumping events. Since 2005 Bosch teaches at the Fontys University for applied sciences in sports, mainly in the field of anatomy, biomechanics, strength training and motor learning.
Frans Bosch has given numerous presentations on training related topics all over the world and frequently works internationally as a consultant in sport and as conference speaker on training related subjects. Clients in recent years are the English Institute of Sports, Wales National Team Rugby the British & Irish Lions, Japan National Team Rugby, England cricket, West ham United football and clubs in the NBA, MLB and NFL.
Together with Ronald Klomp he wrote “Running, biomechanics and exercise physiology applied in practice”, published in the Netherlands in 2001 and translated in English in 2005.
“Strength training and coordination, an integrated approach”, is published in the Netherlands in 2012. This book was completely revised in 2015 and subsequently translated into English, French, Korean, Japanese and Chinese.
His most recent work, “Anatomy of Agility” is basically about movement analysis in sport and is published in 2019.
Adam Petway

Adam Petway
Dr. Adam Petway, who has over 12 years of experience in strength training and sports performance at the NBA and collegiate levels, has joined the University of Louisville men’s basketball staff as Director of Strength & Conditioning.
Petway most recently served as the Horizontal Jumps Coach/Assistant Track & Field Coach at West Chester (Pa.) University since January. There his coaching emphasis was on horizontals, as well as working with Golden Rams athletes in strength and conditioning programs, rehabilitation and biomechanical assessment and analysis for sprints, jumps and hurdles.
He was the Director of Athletic Performance for the NBA Washington Wizards for the 2020-21 season, where he directed all aspects of player performance for the team. In his role with the Wizards, he led the kinetic assessments of each athlete, collaborated with medical staff on player rehab, and designed and implemented training programs for all athletes.
Prior to Washington, Petway served as the Lead Biomechanist for Strength & Conditioning for the NBA Philadelphia 76ers after a year as a Strength and Conditioning Specialist with the team. There he assessed and contributed to the general physical preparation for each athlete among other responsibilities for the NBA team.
Petway served as the Director of Strength and Conditioning coach for the University of Arkansas basketball program for over four years (2014-18) after a year as an assistant with the program. While at Arkansas, he oversaw all aspects of the Arkansas men’s basketball strength and conditioning program, including its unique performance training for the Razorbacks’ up-tempo style and the team’s nutritional guidelines. He began his career with strength and conditioning roles at The Catholic University of America, The George Washington University, and the University of Maryland before working with Arkansas basketball.
Petway earned his bachelor’s degree in sports science from the United State Sports Academy in 2013. He completed a Master of Business Administration with an emphasis in sport management at the Universidad Europea de Madrid in 2017 and a doctorate in sports science from Universidad Catolica de Murcia in 2021. Petway also studied applied data science through MIT professional education.
A Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) through the NSCA, Petway has taught classes at the collegiate level. His thesis research was focused on neuromuscular profiling and match-play demands in elite basketball populations and has been the corresponding author on several peer-reviewed publications related to these topics. Petway published the book Basketball Mechanics, which examines the physical attributes of the top performing basketball athletes in the game.
A native of Atlanta, Ga., Petway and his wife Colleen have two children: Emilia and Harrison.
Cassidy Papa

Cassidy Papa
Cassidy Papa is a board-certified Sports Physical Therapy Specialist (SCS) and Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) with experience across multiple levels of elite sport. She earned her Doctor of Physical Therapy from the University of Southern California, where she also completed a sports residency.
Cassidy has worked at the Meyer Institute of Sport and completed a Division I Sports Fellowship at Wake Forest University, gaining extensive experience in high-performance rehabilitation and return-to-play. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Human Biology from Stanford University, where she was a four-year member of the women’s water polo team.
She recently completed her second season as a Performance Physical Therapist with the Charlotte Hornets, specializing in bridging rehabilitation and performance to support athlete durability and elite return to play.
Anja Borsheim

Anja Borsheim
Anja Borsheim is a Norwegian physiotherapist (University of Bergen) and strength and conditioning coach (Hedmark University of Applied Science) currently working with Dubai Basketball’s EuroLeague team.
Alongside her work in professional basketball, she has extensive experience working with athletes at the highest level across multiple sports including volleyball, tennis, golf, and Olympic weightlifting.
Her work focuses on integrating rehabilitation, injury prevention, and performance training into a seamless continuum, to help athletes return to sport with confidence while optimizing long-term resilience and performance capacity.
With a background as a former professional volleyball player, Anja is also the founder of Bulletproof Performance, which specializes in sports rehabilitation and performance training for volleyball athletes worldwide. Her experience as both an athlete and clinician continues to shape her practice in elite sport.
Luka Svilar, PhD

Luka Svilar, PhD
Luka is an enthusiastic physical performance specialist, S&C coach, international author and lecturer. He earned his Master of Kinesiology degree from the Faculty of Kinesiology at the University of Zagreb, having won multiple awards for exceptional study achievements. During his master studies Luka also studied as an exchange student at Jan Komensky University’s School of Physical Education and Sports in Slovakia as well as at the School of Medicine at Lund University in Sweden. He did his first full-season internship as a S&C coach in the basketball club Zagreb. After graduation, Luka was accepted for a lecturing position at the University of Zagreb.
As far as his practical experience goes, he has worked with athletes in different sports, mainly in tennis, soccer and volleyball. However, Luka’s primary focus has always been on basketball. After his internship, he worked with youth and senior teams in Croatia and won a gold medal with the U18 team at the Eurobasket Championship in 2012. Luka also spent one season in Turkey with the basketball club Türk Telekom. In 2016, he moved to Vitoria-Gasteiz in Spain to work with Baskonia, one of the most recognized basketball teams in Europe. At the University of the Basque Country in Vitoria-Gasteiz, Luka took the next step in his academic education in 2018 by successfully defending his PhD project called Load monitoring and management in elite basketball. The journey with Baskonia ended in 2020 with a big trophy – Spanish Championship. The following season Luka moved to Russia to work with Unics Kazan, reaching finals in both the VTB League and EuroCup. In the summer of 2021 Luka decided to take a new step in his career by signing with the German powerhouse, FC Bayern Munich Basketball. In 2023, he became the personal coach of EuroLeague superstar Shane Larkin, while simultaneously pursuing a specialization in sports and rehabilitation medicine. In the summer of 2024, Luka completed his final exam and moved to the United States to work in the NBA, where he achieved historic success by winning the 2025 NBA Summer League.
Besides coaching, field-related writing is another passion of Luka. He has published several papers related to sports training, physical performance, injury prevention and load monitoring. Luka co-authored the book Functional Movement Preparation for Basketball and also served as editor and co-author of There Is More Than One Way to Skin a Cat. In the academic year 2017/2018, Luka received the annual FIEP Vladimir Findak Award for young researchers for his notable achievements in science. Luka’s professional goal is to help players achieve and maintain their peak physical performance as well share his knowledge with other enthusiasts in the field.
Luka is happily married to Dora, a School of Kinesiology alumni and a big sports fan. Their common mission is nurturing a loving and supportive relationship with each other and their son Patrik. Traveling is a big part of their life as well as following various sports. Whenever possible, Dora and Luka look for places with great coffee, food and wine.
Jakub Kudlacek
- Director of International Scouting
Jakub Kudlacek
Jakub Kudlacek is a former Czech National Team basketball player and experienced international basketball executive, currently serving as Director of International Scouting for the Charlotte Hornets.
He joined the Hornets as an International Scout in 2017 before being promoted to his current role in 2018. Prior to Charlotte, he worked as an International Scout for the Los Angeles Clippers and served as Head of the Boys’ Youth Department at the Czech Basketball Federation.
During his playing career, Kudlacek competed for several European clubs, including Pallacanestro Reggiana, Juve Caserta, Pallacanestro Cantù, Sutor Montegranaro, ČEZ Nymburk, and Clavijo Logroño. His career reflects a deep understanding of international basketball, shaped by both his playing experience and his talent evaluation background.
Kostas Chatzichristos
- Head of Performance
Kostas Chatzichristos
Kostas Chatzichristos is currently the Director of Performance at Fenerbahce Beko Istanbul. Before moving to Istanbul, he held the same position for eight years at the Russian powerhouse CSKA Moscow, being responsible for player athletic development and rehabilitation.
The two times European Champion with CSKA has also acted as a strength and conditioning specialist in elite basketball teams in Europe (Olympiacos BC, Panionios BC) and the US as the head strength and conditioning coach at the University of Georgia – Men’s Basketball.
In the summer of 2021, Kostas joined the Greek National Team – Men’s Basketball as Head of Performance under the coach Rick Pitino and continues in the same position until the present day.
As a co-founder and Director of the Euroleauge Strength & Conditioning Coaches’ Association (ESCCA), he has led the fledgling Association into organization of growing impact in the basketball strength and conditioning community. The ESCCA’s annual Summit has been established as one of the major educational events in Europe, attracting world-class speakers, attendees and companies from around the world.
A frequent speaker and guest lecturer at international and national educational events, Kostas has also authored numerous articles in fitness publications. He has produced educational products for coaches and has been doing consulting work with sports federations and select professional teams. He is also involved in the development of tech products and services focusing on performance optimization and injury “prediction”.
He is also a co-founder at Performance22Lab, a state-of-the-art rehabilitation and performance center – located in his hometown Athens, Greece – where he has been training athletes of all levels, ages, and different sports. He is mostly known for his ongoing work with professional basketball players, as he has worked with some of the best male and female basketball players of this generation helping them perform at their best or/and rehabilitate from injuries.
Kostas holds a master’s degree in Exercise Physiology and Sports Nutrition from the University of Texas at Austin and a bachelor’s degree in Sports Science from the University of Athens and is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS).
Jure Drakslar

Jure Drakslar
Jure Drakslar graduated as a Strength and Conditioning Coach at University of Ljubljana, Slovenia. Currently he is working as a S&C coach and rehabilitation specialist at UNICS Kazan.
Prior to UNICS, he held the same position at Khimki Moscow region. Jure started his professional career 18 years ago at BC Slovan where he was 5 years responsible for athletic development of one of the best European prospects, among which were Goran Dragić, Zoran Dragić, Jan Vesely and others. Before going abroad Jure was working 3 seasons as S&C coach at BC Union Olimpija youth teams. In the meanwhile, he was hired to establish S&C system and educate local S&C coaches at BC Spars Sarajevo and BC USK Praha. Before joining BC Khimki in 2018, he was 3 seasons S&C coach at the top Polish basketball team BC Zielona Gora, which was at that time playing Euroleague and Eurocup and later FIBA Champions League.
Jure is personal off-season S&C coach of many top-level basketball players, including one of the world’s best basketball player, Luka Doncić. In his 17-year career as a pro S&C coach he has worked with various Slovenian National Teams (1 season senior Basketball NT, 4 seasons U20 Basketball NT, 4 seasons Swimming NT, 1 season Rowing NT).
Besides performance training and rehabilitation, Jure has a great passion in continuous education and passing his knowledge and experience to others who are willing to learn.
Juan Trapero

Juan Trapero
Juan Trapero is currently the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach at the Spanish powerhouse Real Madrid, a position that he has held for a total of eighteen years. Juan, a Madrid native, has a wealth of experience in training elite basketball players and working with teams that compete at the highest level. Over the years Coach Trapero has worked with some of European’s basketball greatest players, like Sergio Lull, Rudy Fernandez, Sergio Rodriguez and to name a few. He has also held similar positions in the professional basketball clubs of Zaragoza (two seasons) and Fuenlabrada (5 seasons) that competed in ACB, Spain’s top basketball league.
Playing a key role in the success of these teams, Trapero has an impressive collection of trophies having won two Euroleague titles, five ACB League titles, five ACB Cups, five ACB Supercups and one Intercontinental Cup.
Juan Trapero was himself an elite athlete and a member of the Spanish Track and Field National Team (his events were 60m-100m-4×100) and has successfully participated in the 1992 Barcelona Olympics (100m and 4x 100m), as well as several European and World Track and Field Championships between 1991 and 1995.
Juan holds a bachelor’s degree in Science of Physical Activity and Sports from INEF Madrid and a Master’s Degree in Sport Training and Nutrition from the European University of Madrid. He is a member of the Spanish Strength & Conditioning Coaches Association and a sought-after speaker in educational events.
Jairo Vázquez, PhD

Jairo Vázquez, PhD
Jairo Vázquez is former strength and conditioning coach for the Barcelona Basketball Professional Team, being in charge of player physical performance and load monitoring. He is a member of the Department of Sport Performance at FC Barcelona and has also worked as the strength and conditioning coach for different Spanish National Basketball teams (U13, U16, U18 and U22).
Jairo holds a degree in Physical Activity and Sport Sciences from the Physical Education National Institute in Barcelona, Spain and is a PhD holder with his thesis titled “Adaptations of strength training in different instability conditions”. He also obtained a Professional Master in High Performance in Team Sports (Barça Innovation Hub, Inefc and Byomedic System) leaded by Paco Seirul.lo. Finally, Jairo is a Scholarship recipient from the Sports Council of Spain for The ALTITUDE Project in swimming.
Coach Vasquez is a frequent speaker at local, as well as international educational events covering topics in sport performance, fitness and health. He has also authored scientific articles about basketball monitoring loads and resistance training with rotational inertial devices.
Regev Fanan

Regev Fanan
Regev “Reggie” Fanan is the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach of the legendary Maccabi Tel Aviv Basketball Club since 2015. Before he was named head strength coach, he was an assistant at Tel Aviv for three years and part of the team that won the 2014 Euroleague trophy. Apart from Maccabi, Reggie has worked as head strength and conditioning at the Israeli Women National Team and personally trains elite basketball and soccer players that seek to maximize their athletic potential.
Fanan is a graduate of Zinman school for coaches and the Wingate Institute with a specialization of strength and conditioning for basketball and soccer. He also attended the Tel Aviv University School for Coaches studying weight training. Reggie’s extensive experience in basketball includes him being a professional basketball player for eight years, again in his beloved Maccabi, when he has won three Euroleague titles.
